D-2B Trauma Informed Care Road Map: An Overview of Strategies and Key Concepts to Create and Implement a Culture of Trauma Informed Services (CEU) Track: Prisons & Jails/Social Work NEW! Room: National Harbor 3 This workshop will help identify the need for building and sustaining a culture of trauma-informed care within corrections. The CDC reports that one in four children experiences some sort of maltreatment; one in four women has experienced domestic violence; and one in five women and 2.6% of men have experienced rape at some point in their lives. Changing organizational practices to fit trauma-informed principles will transform the culture of the correctional setting. TIC practices will help facilities promote a culture of safety, empowerment, support the healing and recovery of those we serve with serious mental illness, help to avoid re-traumatization; promote staff well-being; assist with PREA investigations and decrease the chance of recidivism. D-2C Navigating the Road to Promotion Track: Staff Training Room: National Harbor 4 Landing a promotion takes time and can be a challenging yet overwhelming process. In this lesson participants will discover helpful strategies such as self-awareness and identifying their motives. Knowing their strengths, areas of opportunities and the effective behaviors of those who are promoted will help participants in their career track. Through self-discovery this lesson seeks to highlight their skills and make them an exceptional candidate for a promotion. Learning Objectives: • Discuss the key attributes to a promotion. • Discover the distinct differences between being a boss and a leader. • Identify their motivation for a promotion.
