C-2E Enhancing Corrections Data Analysis: Advancing Corrections Analyst Capacity to Translate Data into Action Track: Staff Training Room: National Harbor 6 Corrections agencies need reliable data—and the capacity to analyze and leverage data—to guide decision-making. The Virtual Academy for Corrections Analysts (VACA) program is building data literacy and analytic capabilities of departments of corrections (DOCs) nationwide to address this key need. VACA will provide DOC analysts with self-paced learning materials, communities of practice, peer-to-peer networks and technical assistance at no cost. The Resident Corrections Analysts (RCA) program is providing DOCs with vital analytical capacity through embedded data analysts to bolster data analysis capacity, increase the utility of data for decision-making, expand the corrections analyst workforce, and filling critical data analyst positions. Learning Objectives: • Discuss the needs of DOC leadership to improve their use of data for informed planning and decision-making and learn about upcoming opportunities that target these needs. • Hear about the results of the VACA engagement questionnaire, which aggregated existing capacity and analytic training needs across the country to identify topics needed for developing analyst core competencies. • Learn from subject matter experts working in corrections agencies about their experiences working to expand corrections analyst capacity in their respective DOC(s) and how RCA and VACA are filling a needed gap in the field.
