Written policy, procedure, and practice require that medical aids such as canes, walkers, wheelchairs and other similar medical aids that may be used to conceal contraband are searched or exchanged prior to and after transport. Comment : Items that can be used to conceal contraband should be searched or exchanged prior to and after transport.

Protocols : Written policy and procedure; Post orders. Process Indicators : Transportation log/checklists.

Written policy, procedure and practice requires the use of electronic contra band detection equipment prior to release on transport and return to the fa cility from transport for contraband detection. Comment : Detection equipment can include metal detector wand, body scanner, millimeter wave scanner, body orifice search scanner, and/or metal detector pass through. Protocols : Written policy and procedures. Process Indicators : Transportation logs/checklists or other documentation of use of electronic contraband detection; Interviews; Observations. Written policy and procedure require that inmates who are being transport ed for non-custodial release or parole transport are required to submit to a search and/or body scan prior to transport. Personal property may be trans ported with the inmate being released. Comment : While no longer on inmate status, the security of the transport must still be considered to ensure no weapons are being brought into the transport. Protocols : Written policy and procedure. Process Indicators : Search logs; Transportation logs; Release records.

Written policy, procedure, and practice require transport staff to utilize an empty elevator. In the event another individual enters the elevator, the staff and inmate shall immediately exit and wait for the next available empty eleva tor. Elevators containing community members shall not be used to transport inmates.
