7G. - PERFORMANCE-BASED STANDARD: COMMUNITY RELATIONS The facility is a responsible member of the community. EXPECTED PRACTICES Advisory Board 5-JCF-7G-01 (Ref 4-JCF-6G-01) The facility has an advisory board that meets at least annually and is repre sentative of the community in which it is located

Comment : The board should be a link between the program and the community it serves. Therefore, the board’s composition should be representative of that com munity.

Public Information 5-JCF-7G-02 (Ref 4-JCF-6G-02)

There is a public information program that encourages interaction with the public and the media Comment : A continuing public information program helps communicate the facil ity’s goals and objectives and fosters community involvement and support. The facility should take into account the need to preserve the confidentiality of individ ual juvenile’s cases.

Protocols : Written policy and procedure; public information/education plan.

Process Indicators : Annual reports; press releases.

Media Access and Juveniles’ Rights 5-JCF-7G-03 (Ref 4-JCF-6G-03)

Media access is consistent with preserving juveniles’ rights to privacy and maintaining facility order and security

Process Indicators : Media request(s); interviews with staff/juveniles.
