Once the drone reached the mezzanine, it released a package that floated down and landed with a thud on the tennis court next to the assembled crowd. Further demonstrations showcased various aspects of drone detection including how drones can fly below radar and can evade detection by cameras. Tabarra put these demonstrations in context when he told the crowd: “I’m a big fan of explain ing the limitations of all the sensors early on so people kind of understand what the expectations are. There’s always ways to, you know, beat the system, unfortunately.” In addition to demonstrations of how drones can fly under radar detection and can be nearby without being heard, Tabarra showed how drone detection technology can be integrated with local law enforcement. “It gives you the ability to share that drone with outside law enforcement. So, think about it,

it’s 3 a.m. You’ve got a guy that’s dropping a pack age at your facility. You really can’t get officers out there to talk to them or arrest them. So you can inform outside law enforcement.” Juvenile Summit Hall of Famer Derrick Brooks was the keynot er at a day long Juvenile Summit held on Monday January 13 th . The former Tampa Bay Buccaneer great discussed how he became involved with youth services and the programs created by the Derrick Brooks Foundation. Brooks also shared some of the lessons he learned during his journey. “For young people, you have to show empathy. Meet them where they are but show them where you want them to go. Empathy means young people feel like they aren’t being talked at but listened to and it goes a long way to earning their trust,” he said. →
