Jessica Jensen, MSW (NY) Director of Statewide Educational Initiatives John Jay College Institute for Justice and Opportunity
Jessica Jensen is the director of Statewide Educational Initiatives at the John Jay College Insti - tute for Justice and Opportunity. In this role, she oversees the Prison-to-College Pipeline, CUNY’s college-in-prison program, which operates at Otisville Correctional Facility in Otisville, NY. Ad - ditionally, Jensen oversees the Institute’s provision of technical assistance to college-in-prison programs that are part of the district attorney of New York’s Criminal Justice Investment Initia - tive. Jensen worked at the Vera Institute of Justice on two projects: providing technical assistance to college-in-prison programs that are part of the Second Chance Pell Experimental Sites Initiative, and on Vera’s Opening Doors Initiative, working with public housing agencies to expand their admissions policies to be more inclusive of people with convic - tion histories. Jensen serves on the ACA’s Council on Professional Education and holds a BA in sociology from the University of Texas at Austin and an MSW from the Silberman School of Social Work.
Newton E. Kendig (DC) Clinical Professor of Medicine George Washington University (GW)
Dr. Newton E. Kendig M.D. is a board-certified physician in infectious diseases who joined the GW faculty in 2017 as a clinical professor of medicine, where he is launching a criminal justice health initiative for the university. Kendig received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical Col - lege in 1984 and completed his infectious disease fellowship at Johns Hopkins University in 1991. Kendig served as medical director of the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services from 1991 through 1996. He later became a commissioned officer in the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) assigned to the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP) where he served as medical director and assistant director of the Health Services Division until his retirement in 2015.
Cheryl Taylor (OH) Chief Officer of Advanced Job Training and Returning Citizen Initiative Sinclair Community College
Cheryl Taylor is currently the chief officer of Advanced Job Training and the Returning Citizen Initiative at Sinclair Community College, which she has held since 2012. Since she took the position, she has helped achieve 10,000 employability-based academic credential and 94% student completion. She had previously worked at Sinclair Community College as a sociology professor in adjunct and annually contracted capacities. Taylor has a BA in criminology from Capital University and an MA in applied behavioral science from Wright State University. She also completed the Basic Police Officer Academy program at Clark State Community College and worked as a deputy sheriff/prosecutor’s investigator before working at Sinclair. She is also a member of the ACA Professional Education Committee.
