The Texas Department of Criminal Justice — Implementing the Correctional Professional Development Program (CPDP) Training Model Room 102 B TRACK: Staff Training & Development Overview: The Correctional Professional Development Program (CPDP) is a new, multi-phase training model designed to equip correctional staff with the skills and mindset needed for today’s complex environments. This workshop explores CPDP’s implementation, including planning, stakeholder engagement, curriculum design and integration. Participants will learn how CPDP aligns with agency standards, supports retention, and boosts readiness. The session offers practical guidance for jurisdictions seeking scalable, sustainable training models, with lessons learned from CPDP’s inaugural roll-out. Intelligent Risk-Taking to Improve Facility Safety Room 102 A TRACK: Organizational Culture Overview: Facility safety is the core of corrections work. Nothing else is possible if staff and incarcerated people are not safe. Join presenters from the Great Wardens Project for a discussion on how facility culture impacts facility safety. Hear about innovative solutions from corrections leaders to address four factors that make facilities less safe for both staff and incarcerated people: corrections fatigue, communication, accountability and staff retention. Capitalizing on facility leadership’s desire for safety, this session will highlight the recently released A Warden’s Guide: Culture Change in Detention Facilities, which will spark inspiration and help you to generate ideas to improve your facility culture and overall safety.
