Additionally, unemployment has been shown to be a risk factor for crime and recidivism. Given their commitment to public safety, correctional agencies are valuable partners in preparing justice-involved people for employment through job training, educational opportunities and work release centers. This session will examine innovative work training programs and explore successful partnerships between correctional and community-based reentry agencies. It also aims to improve participants’ understanding of the reentry process and advance awareness of workforce partnerships.

Data-Driven Strategies for Post-Release Employment Success: Leveraging Labor Market Information for Reentry Planning Room W232 B/C Overview: Through the BJA 2018 Second Chance Act Adult Reentry & Employment Strategic (ARES) Planning Program, the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections (LA DPS&C) has developed several strategic data-driven public safety initiatives to reduce recidivism by enhancing post-release employment success. As part of these initiatives, the LA DPS&C partnered with Mississippi State University NSPARC to leverage projected labor market information to enhance community reentry planning, assess the historic alignment of LA DPS&C Career Technical Education (CTE) programming with historic labor markets and individual occupational outcomes and examine the influence such programs had on post-release behavioral outcomes.
