This workshop will cover preventative strategies, identifying warning signs and the role of mental health support. This workshop will emphasize the need for ongoing training, increased awareness and proactive measures to reduce such incidents. Meaningful Roles for Individuals with Lived Experience Room W231 B/C Overview: The workshop will help participants understand and identify the value of meaningful roles for individuals with lived experience. The session will highlight the role of peer mentors and PRS for incarcerated individuals as well as those on probation. The session will also focus on the VADOC serving as a second chance employer, identifying routes within the DOC workforce. The presenters will provide details on training challenges and successes regarding this initiative. Major points include supporting evidence-based research, and the overall goal of long-lasting public safety. A personal journey from inmate to employee will be featured. Moderator: Emmanuel W.
