For many people, learning lifelong lessons and leadership skills that carry over into every facet of their lives starts with their participation in competitive sports. There is no better arena to learn self-discipline, adaptability, teamwork and strategic thinking than on the proverbial court where one shot can be the difference between victory and defeat. Making Informed Decisions: Utilizing Assessment Tools to Enhance Responses

Overview: This workshop will review the Massachusetts Department of Correction’s process of implementing assessment tools in their behavior assessment and program intervention model. The presenters will discuss why and how these tools were implemented to enhance the understanding of misconduct or violence, including how a multidisciplinary approach has been utilized to administer tools and apply results. Case examples will demonstrate how the assessment tools can be used to guide decisions regarding best placement, inform program planning and identify strategies to mitigate misconduct and violence risk. The presenters will share lessons learned and challenges associated with incorporating these tools into the behavior assessment process.
