Community corrections is an alternative to incarceration in jail/prison for those struggling to be successful under probation supervision and a safe way for men to smoothly transition from prison to our community. The facility serves up to 90 adult men in residence as well as post-residential services. Each participant has a team which supports the development of an individual care plan designed to articulate a clear path to successful reintegration. Staff provide continuous monitoring and support, helping participants align their actions and choices with their long-term goals. The collaboration represents an innovative, research-based residential program model that is trauma informed and gender responsive for women with increasingly complex needs. The Program enables Denver women with criminal justice involvement to return and thrive in their home community. The MOORE (Men Overcoming Obstacles Re-Entry) Center is a collaborative residential program between the City and County of Denver and the Second Chance Center. The Second Chance Center (SCC) is a Colorado based nonprofit organization that offers case management, mentoring, and vital resources to assist formerly incarcerated individuals in reestablishing their lives and becoming successful members of the community. The cycle of criminal behavior is difficult to break and often involves a comprehensive approach to address a host of issues, including but not limited to substance abuse, violence, trauma and socioeconomic factors. SCC clients are often unaware of the impact these factors have had on the course of their lives and their ability to actively choose a better path, which is why SCC mentors clients to wisely navigate their unique circumstances and help them make the most of their second chance The collaboration represents an innovative, research-based program model that is gender responsive and trauma-informed.
