When the facility opened it consisted of four housing pods that consist of six dayrooms each (pods 1, 3, 4 and 6) and an in-patient medical area and behavioral health housing area. In the early 2000’s pods two and five were added, which are the direct supervision open housing pods. There are eight different custody levels housed within the detention facility in cells that consist of one-to-four person cells. The Arapahoe County Detention Facility provides programming and a library operated by the Arapahoe County Library District for those in-custody. We recently started providing electronic tablets to each individual experiencing incarceration at our facility. The tablets have classes, movies, and games on them, some of which are free and others cost money. In June of 2018, we launched a full-service Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program that has grown exponentially since 2018. The MAT program would not exist without having strong partnerships within the community through our community-based Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) partners to which we are very grateful. We have implemented a discharge planner within this past year which has assisted in providing a more streamlined process for individuals that are being released from our care, especially while we consider continuity of care. Additionally, in November of 2024 we were able to introduce virtual peer support services for any individual interested and participating in our MAT program. Arapahoe County Residential Center (ACRC) serves as a sentencing alternative for Transitional and Diversion clients. Male and female adult participants are referred through the Arapahoe County Community Corrections Board. ACRC provides temporary housing, monitoring, and transitional services for a capacity of 206 participants. Programming and treatment focuses on substance abuse, mental health, cognitive restructuring, as well as several need specific groups. ACRC has a structured level system which consists of four levels. The higher level you are on, the more privileges you receive. There is also an incentive program where points are earned. ACRC strives with recognizing positive behavior by assigning points to which participants can cash in for rewards. ACRC’s intensive program assists residents in their recovery, enabling them to lead a crime-free lifestyle, and learn social and personal skills for healthy living for themselves, their families, and communities. Participants receive individual assessments, case management, family services, and vocational assistance at the center. They are referred for substance abuse programming, mental health treatment, and educational services. At the foundation of our program is evidence-based programming designed to address the underlying reasons for anti-social behaviors, and ultimately change criminal thinking and behavior.
