This presentation will describe how my agency in Florida created a one of a kind Statewide Wound Care Program to provide streamlined specialized wound care services and products to the Florida Department of Corrections. This presentation will describe how the program works, our innovative techniques, exemplary practices to enhance continuous quality improvement and show actual real patient outcomes from the program. The presentation also gives educational points to provide quality, safe and effective treatment while having excellent outcomes. Learning Objectives: • Our Statewide Wound Care service is used to streamline Advanced Wound Care orders, products and directions to provide better patient outcomes to our health care providers. We orient and educate providers that require assistance with treating complicated wounds. This service provides wound care treatment, recommended orders and product selection to Correctional Physicians and advanced

care providers that may lack knowledge or experience with advanced or complicated wound care. According to the wound classification, we will recommend products to select for treatment, and we will give complete assistance from beginning to closure of the wound through the process. • Understanding wound healing and significant deviations such as infection in the correctional setting, that impede wound care outcomes for our patients. This objective will be covered to describe our program processes that we educate and assist providers to overcome these obstacles in the correctional environment. Such points are that we provide fast, clear and competent wound care order recommendations with product selections that treat not only the wound but help to prevent infection in the correctional environment due to housing restrictions and access to immediate care. • The importance of appropriate wound assessment and proper dressing selection. We will highlight the importance of these topics and explain the direct relationship of how this will affect the patient’s outcome of the wound care provided.
