A-4G Structuring Process Around the Use of Prescription Drugs of Abuse in Corrections (CE, CME, CERP) Track: Healthcare & Treatment Room: National Harbor 7 Correctional facilities in United States currently hold almost two million people at various state prisons, federal prisons, local jails, etc. Many of us are aware two out of three inmates have a substance abuse history. Inside corrections, healthcare service provision is complicated, and one must consider the abuse and diversion risks associated with pharmacological options. Despite the awareness, prescription drug abuse is not simple to tackle without a systemic approach by a multi-disciplinary team. In this presentation, we will discuss ways to recognize patterns of prescription drug abuse, utilization of various tools to promote safe use of prescription drugs and to promote best practices in medical documentation. Room: National Harbor 11 Jails are increasingly tasked with implementing medication-assisted treatment (MAT) continuation and induction programs to treat individuals with opioid use disorder. This workshop will explore three jail-based MAT programs in three distinct jurisdictions, Buncombe County, NC, Monmouth County, NJ and Des Moines, WA. Each jail will share how and why they decided to implement their program, challenges they faced, how they overcame challenges, successes they have seen, connection to services upon release and how they have and continued to adapt to meet the needs of their clients.
