By working together, we can help the incarcerated parent build or rebuild the ever-so-important child-parent bond. This can and does help reduce the recidivism rate. This can also help in keeping these children from being part of the next generation of incarcerated people. The topic of reentry into a family is an important element of criminal justice policy, those who maintain family ties are less likely to be rearrested. A-2K Creative Tactics for Managing Sexual Offenders (CEU) Track: Reentry/Community Corrections/ Social Work NEW! Room: National Harbor 8 This presentation is submitted by the Ad Hoc Probation and Parole Committee. This workshop will provide guidance to assist agencies in the successful reentry of one of the most specialized populations — registered sex offenders. A collaboration between the Florida & Tennessee Department of Corrections will showcase how they each provide successful reentry of this population through sex offender risk evaluation and treatment whether in the prison and/or in the community, addressing reentry needs and managing statutory requirements. A focus will be made on addressing offender behavior and sexual deviance through creative and targeted intervention for this exceedingly visible population. Learning Objectives: • Gain an understanding of how sexual risk evaluation and treatment can assist in reducing recidivism. • Discuss how to maximize resources for this HEALTH CARE SPECIAL SESSION AND LUNCHEON National Perspectives with Dr. Neeraj Gandotra THURSDAY, JAN. 4 TH AT 12–1:30 P.M., IN POTOMAC BALLROOM A Thursday, Jan. 4, 12–1:30 p.m., Potomac Ballroom A Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center r. Neeraj Gandotra serves as the Chief Medical Officer for SAMHSA. Previously, Dr. Gandotra served as the Chief Medical Officer for a large nationwide addiction treatment network where he has developed national strategies specifically aimed at reducing risk and improving outcomes. Dr. Gandotra be gan his Addiction career in public health serving an under served community in Washington DC where he developed his perspective of how a nationwide approach to addiction treatment is greatly needed. As Medical Director of Ad diction Treatment Services at Johns Hopkins he directed patient care through implementation of department initia tives and medical center resources. Dr. Gandotra has also worked as a Medical Director for federally qualified health centers where it was necessary to develop policies mindful of specific catchment area needs. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Gandotra is a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry. Dr. Gandotra has worked with the Maryland State Attorney General on cases of physician misconduct, specifically those involving prescriptions of controlled substances. Dr. Gandotra also has been a consultant for the NFL player’s assistance program for substance use disor ders. Dr. Gandotra received his medical degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) School of Medicine and completed his Psychiatric residency at Howard Univer sity. He completed an Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine. Session Overview: Discuss national perspectives on the treatment of sub stance use disorders and co-occurring mental illness within the parameters of SAMHSA’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Learning Objectives: • Participants will gain an understanding of the prev alence of substance use disorder and mental illness as per SAMHSA’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health. • Participants will learn of new legislative and regula tory changes in treating OUD. • Participants will acquire knowledge of selected relevant SAMHSA initiatives, educational resources, and grants.
