CORRECTIONAL FACILITY/INSTITUTIONAL TOURS

Multi-Purpose Building (Education, Library & Case Management), three housing units (A-Bldg., B-Bldg., 192 Bldg.), Support Services Building (Medical, Mental Health Services, Traffic/Intake) and MCE. The Maryland Correctional Enterprises (MCE) is composed of different shops, including data entry, design shop, sew/cut embroidery shop and a mail and distribution shop.

DCDOC READY Center The D.C. Department of Corrections’ READY Center (Resources to Empower and Develop You) is a community-based one stop shop that offers a pathway for formerly incarcerated District of Columbia residents (released from DOC and FBOP facilities) to immediately access services and support as they reenter the community. The center includes classrooms, offices, meeting areas and multi-use space and is staffed by public sector agencies and community-based organizations offering case management services, streamlined access to identification and vital documents, housing assistance, education and training resources, mental health counseling and referral, substance use counseling and referral, professional development, job placement assistance and financial literacy services. It is ACA accredited and the only institution designed to house women committed to the Commissioner of Correction within the State of Maryland. As a result, it houses all security levels: Maximum, Medium, Minimum, Pre-Release and Work Release. Currently, 601 inmates are housed. The facility is situated on approximately 35 acres and consists of a Gatehouse, Administration Building, Supply, Maintenance,

EVENTS

Youth Detention Center (YDC) The facility was opened in September of 2017 with a total capacity of 60 beds which includes a 10-bed female housing unit and four male housing units with a total of 50 beds. YDC is a green initiative building that is trauma informed care based. YDC holds a population that is either detained or sentenced. YDC is a trauma informed care facility which provides II (Incarcerated Individuals) with access to a mental health counselor who is on both the 7x3 shift and 3x11, dental, and there is a 24/7 onsite medical unit which is staffed with an onsite RN and LPN. Incarcerated Individuals are provided access to education through an onsite Baltimore City Public School (The Eager Street Academy) which is a fully operational school with a library, computer and science lab. Students receive full educational services including IEP, access to school social workers, access to school psychologists and a transition specialist.
