CORRECTIONAL FACILITY/INSTITUTIONAL TOURS
William G.Truesdale Detention Center The WGTADC was completed in 1987 at a cost of $15 million, and it houses all individuals committed by the courts to the Sheriff’s custody. The facility also houses a number of federal prisoners through a contract with the U.S. Marshals Service. The Detention Center has a rated capacity of 340 inmates. The Detention Center operates under a management style and architectural design that facilitates increased staff and inmate contact and works to reduce tension and improve security within the correctional setting. Nearly three decades later, Alexandria’s Detention Center has proven itself a model corrections facility that has earned national recognition for excellence in its staff and facility operations. The Detention Center strives to provide the highest quality in service and has been accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA) since 1989 and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) since 1991. The Montgomery County Correctional Facility The Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation is responsible for the care and custody of all incarcerated individuals either on pre-trial status or serving terms of confinement up to 18 months. The Montgomery County Correctional Facility was opened in 2003 to address overcrowding of the Detention Center and employs a direct supervision approach. This model promotes staff-incarcerated person interaction to prevent anti-social, deviant and negative behaviors. Incarcerated individuals are classified into manageable units with an emphasis on rehabilitative programs and services to engage positive development for reentry into the community while maintaining a prioritization on security and public safety. MCCF has a 1,029 bedspace capacity, with a current average population of 744. MCCF also serves as the department’s headquarters, where administrative functions are conducted under the leadership of Director Ben Stevenson.
