behavioral health provider in Middlesex County. To enhance the standard of care for individuals in crisis, Sheriff Koutoujian developed a new approach to managing complex cases. Correctional staff have made significant progress with individuals who have lengthy histories of violence, recalcitrance and self-harm. This presentation will examine specific case studies and review strategic interventions employed by correctional and behavioral health staff. In addition, presenters will highlight the ways in which data, information sharing and stakeholder collaboration can yield positive outcomes for individuals with serious mental illness, while keeping correctional staff safe from assaultive behavior. Learning Objectives: • Demonstrate knowledge of the MSO’s bi-weekly mental health intervention crisis team, its Evaluation & Stabilization Unit and behavioral health intervention procedures. • Identify specific examples in which the MSO behavioral health model was able improve care for individuals in mental health crisis. • Understand whether behavioral health procedures and/or data collection methods can be applied to their own correctional facilities. Track: Prisons & Jails Room: National Harbor 10 The Twinning Project is a partnership between corrections services and professional football clubs with the objective of twinning prisons and jails with a local professional football club. The aim is to engage prisoners in sports-based programs to improve their mental and physical health, wellbeing and obtain a qualification which will help improve their life chances and gain employment upon release. To date over 50 correctional facilities in the UK have adopted the project and pilots are underway in New York, Los Angeles, D.C. and Florida. Learning Objectives: • Using sport as a catalyst for engagement into learning. • Addressing the recidivism challenge through brand-based upskilling. • Learning the value of professional sporting brands and teams in addressing the mental and physical well-being of those serving custodial sentences.
