Clinical Updates [CE/CME/CERP] Room 205C Primary Area of Focus: Healthcare/Wellness Primary Community of Focus: Adult Corrections/ Prisons Correctional medical health care faces numerous challenges in the management of populations in a diverse system. This workshop will provide information on current guidelines and trends that impact the practice of delivering care to our patients. Presenters will discuss common challenges along with new upcoming exemplary expected practices that should be incorporated in one’s practice. Learning Objectives: • Participants will be able to articulate some of the leading issues facing correctional medicine that impact their current practices. • Participants will have a working knowledge of expected practices to address these issues in correctional medicine. • Participants will be able to understand and adhere to the guidelines in their systems for comprehensive care. Multi-Disciplinary Correctional Care: A Hospital within the Secure Perimeter [CE/CME/CERP] Room 206A B Primary Area of Focus: Healthcare & Wellness Primary Community of Focus: Adult Corrections The Florida Department of Corrections is unique because it runs a hospital within the perimeter. The Reception and Medical Center Hospital located at Lake Butler, Florida opened its doors to Florida’s incarcerated population in 1968. It is a 120-bed licensed hospital. It has a 34-bed infirmary including a 10-bed peritoneal dialysis unit. It has a cancer treatment center where they can compound chemotherapeutic medications. It has an ambulatory surgery center where specialists and surgeons from outside the gate can come inside the wire and perform surgical procedures. It has nine major chronic illness clinics. On the average day, there will be approximately 1,000 inmates receiving medical care with up to 100 receiving dialysis and an average of 100 receiving cancer treatment. This presentation serves to highlight the services offered by the Reception and Medical Center.
