These cases, although similar because of the seriousness of the self-injuries,

are very distinct due to the psychopathology of both patients. One is a case of psychosis which drove the inmate to multiple suicide attempts, and the diagnostic challenges it presented, and his current treatment management. The second case is that of an inmate who has feigned psychiatric illness finally being evaluated for malingering with the associated treatment challenges, and the non-pharmacological treatment of such an individual. Learning Objectives: • Explain the use of psychological testing to determine the degree of malingering of the self-injurious inmate. • Communicate non-pharmacological treatment and behavior approaches of the non-psychotic inmate. Moderator: Jerome Greenfield , M.D., DFAPA, Health Services Administrator, Iowa Department of Corrections, Des Moines, Iowa Speakers: Beltran J. Despite widespread use, it was not until a 2016 ProPublica investigation “Machine Bias” that risk assessment developers, researchers and justice agencies were directed to examine the potential for tools to extend systematic biases. Learning Objectives: • Explain risk assessment design and development. • Differentiate the psychotic vs. psychopathic inmate with SIB.
