A-3F Preventing Exposure to Fentanyl and Other Opioids (CE, CERP) Room 127B Track: Healthcare It would be impossible to overstate the impact of the opioid crisis currently gripping our nation. Drug overdoses, suffered by family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues, are now the leading cause of injury-related death in the United States, eclipsing deaths from motor vehicle crashes or firearms. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics in 2020, drug overdose deaths in the United States Increased by nearly 30% over the previous years, reaching an all-time high of more than 93,000. This session will help correctional professionals identify opioids entering our institutions and how to save the lives of the inmates/ detainees that come into our institutions, as well as our staff.
