E-2E Women and Addiction: Gender Specific Care Models When Treating Female Offenders with Substance Use Disorders (SUD, CE, CERP, CME, Y CE) Room 127A Track: Healthcare For women with SUDs, we are witnessing devastating trends in morbidity and mortality. From 1999 to 2017, the death rate from drug overdose among women aged 30–64 years increased by 260%. Female correctional facilities need to re-conceptualize how SUD treatment is delivered to their population. SUD programs for women need to be tailored to an integrated chronic disease model of addiction treatment, prioritizing recovery-oriented treatment approaches rather than traditional abstinence-based approaches and should focus specifically on the physical and mental health needs of women.
