A-4E Curriculum and Training Academy for Mental Health Providers Working with the Justice Involved: Justice Involved Services Training Academy (CE) Room 11A

Many mental health providers are unaware of the unique needs and characteristics of the justice involved or the RNR model and can unwittingly increase criminal behavior by providing “traditional” services. San Diego is filling this gap with a 6-day EBP training academy for treatment providers to improve outcomes for the justice involved population that also struggles with severe mental illness. This workshop will assist participants in developing their own training curriculum to assist treatment provider partners in simultaneously addressing criminal drivers of recidivism and severe mental illness. Tools will be shared. Learning Objectives: • Discuss research indicating that both mental illness and criminogenic needs must be addressed when present for successful outcomes. • Describe San Diego’s development of Justice Involved Services Training Academy to support our large network of treatment partners. • Provide outcome data on this cross-system training for mental health providers in best practices for meeting the unique needs and characteristics of the justice involved.
