D-1I Implementation of the Performance-Based Expected Practices for Adult Correctional Institutions 5 th Edition Manual Room 10 The Performance-Based Expected Practices for Adult Correctional Institutions 5 th Edition manual will be implemented in 2020. It included a

based educational programming for justice involved individuals is a major contributor to positive reentry. The U.S. Departments of Justice and Education jointly released a correctional education guidance package detailing quality educational principles for juvenile residential facilities. Many of these principles are applicable to adult corrections, as well. This workshop will explore the guiding principles and associated core activities that promote each principle. A detailed discussion will occur focusing on key core activities where participants will learn what these activities look like, how to implement the activities and ways to apply continuous quality assurance measures to the activities. Learning Objectives: • Increase their knowledge of the five guiding principles of high-quality correctional education programs. • Discuss activities or strategies needed to implement the guiding principles. • Identify continuous quality measures to apply to their education programs. During this session, we will discuss the process of standard manuals being updated following each standards committee meeting as applicable; implementation process for mid-cycle audits; examples of what some agencies have done; and answer questions about special management and restrictive housing.
