Beginning with intake and ending with reentry, scholars understand the importance of risk assessments when deciding on what type of services to allocate for an inmate. The Risk-Need-Responsivity (RNR) model is perhaps the most influential model for the assessment and treatment of offenders (Blanchette & Brown, 2006; Ward, Mesler & Yates, 2007). This presentation will speak to how the RNR model has influenced the development and implementation of the Florida Department of Corrections fourth-generation risk assessment, Spectrum, as well as the selection of rehabilitation programs offered to inmates. The workshop will address: • What is meant by “The Dynamics of Sexual Abuse and Sexual Harassment in Confinement?” • The importance of this knowledge and how it relates to preventing, detecting, and responding to sexual abuse and sexual harassment in confinement. • How sexual abuse and sexual harassment present in confinement settings and how staff can recognize and respond to signs of sexual abuse and sexual harassment. • How understanding these dynamics contributes to a culture of sexually safety and security.
