4C. PERFORMANCE-BASED STANDARD: EMERGENCY MEDICAL TRANSPORTS EXPECTED PRACTICES

Written policy, procedure and practice provides for emergency transports (ambulance, air) that do not allow for a security staff escort (space require ments) but assures safe and timely access to services. The plan includes: 1. Security procedures providing for notification of the Warden/Super intendent or designee. 2. Security procedures for obtaining planned destination of transport vehicle, point of contact for updates and notification of local law enforcement agencies at the destination. Comment : In the event emergency transports do not allow security escorts, alter nate plans for being at the pick-up location and destination need to be made along with a chase vehicle. Protocols : Written policy and procedure; Emergency plans. Process Indicators : Designated facility; Provider lists; Transportation logs; Interviews. Written policy, procedure and practice provides access to emergency care when a medical incident occurs during transport. Comment : Staff should be trained in basic first aid for immediate medical response until professional services can be provided. Protocols : Written policy and procedures. Process Indicators : Training records; Maps of emergency care facilities on route; Incident reports.
