Process Indicators : Documentation of medical service transport in event of med ical emergency.

Written policy, procedure and practice require jurisdictions who contract with a private medical transport provider to have a written agreement in place with the emergency medical transport provider. These agreements shall cover, at a minimum, the following information: 1. Escort by security staff. 2. Reporting locations. 3. Weapons and less-lethal munitions aboard the transport vehicle. 4. Routes of travel. 5. Alternate routes of travel. Comment : Applicable if the facility utilizes a private medical transport company for emergency medical services. Protocols : Written policy and procedure; Memorandum of Agreement. Process Indicators : Log of medical transport with required information. Written policy, procedure and practice provide that the institution is prepared for possible medical emergencies that require an inmate to be evacuated by medical air transport. These plans shall address the following requirements: 1. Escort by security staff. 2. Weight carrying capacity of the aircraft. 3. Searches prior to transport. 4. Type of restraints to be used. 5. Restrictions on weapons and less-lethal munitions on-board. 6. Restrictions on communication devices. 7. Precautionary landing procedures. Comment : Air transportation may be required for emergency medical situations and security requirements must be coordinated ahead of transport. Protocols : Written policy and procedures; Memorandum of Agreement. Process Indicators : Transportation log/documentation of medical air transport.
