Written policy, procedure, and practice require that at no time will the trans port staff allow the inmate out of her/his sight unless health care requirements dictate otherwise (e.g., the inmate must enter an x-ray room). In such instanc es, the officer will position her/himself just outside the door of the room in which the health care procedure is being conducted. Comment : Inmate always in sight is preferred, but some medical procedures may require staff to not have direct sight of inmate and deploy alternative security measures. Protocols : Written policy and procedure; Post orders; Memorandum of Agree ment with hospital. Process Indicators : Log of actions taken when required to be out of sight of inmate. Written policy, procedure and practice provide specialized security protocols for inmates who present an extraordinary risk to a transportation team, other inmates on a transport, or the general public. There is a process to identify, categorize and approve these types of high-risk transportation designations. Comment : None. Protocols : Written policy and procedure. Process Indicators : Approval of high-risk transportation documentation; Trans portation logs/documentation. Written policy, procedure and practice requires that juvenile offenders are transported with sight and sound separation from adult inmates. Comment : Juvenile is a person under the age of 21, or as defined in the local jurisdiction as under the age of majority.

Written policy, procedure, and practice requires that youthful offenders are transported with sight and sound separation from adult inmates. Comment : Youthful offender is a person under the age of criminal majority in the jurisdiction in which he or she is confined who has been charged and/or sentenced as an adult.
