Credentials 5-JCF-5C-54 (Ref 4-JCF-4C-53)

(MANDATORY) Health care personnel comply with applicable federal and state licensure, certification, or registration requirements. Verification of cur rent credentials and licensure are on file in the facility. Concerns about incom petence and/or professional misconduct are managed in accordance with state law, agency policy, and relevant professional ethical codes Comment : Verification consists of copies of credentials or a letter confirming cre dential status from a state licensing or certification body. Allegations and evidence of incompetence and professional misconduct are to be viewed as extremely seri ous, particularly given the vulnerability of a population below the age of majority.

Protocols : Written policy and procedure; standing orders.

Process Indicators : Verification of credentials, licensure, and/or registration; in vestigation reports and dispositions; interviews.

Emergency Response 5-JCF-5C-55 (Ref 4-JCF-4C-54)

(MANDATORY) Designated direct-care staff and all health care staff are trained to respond to health-related situations within a four-minute response time The training program, established by the responsible health authority in cooperation with the facility administrator, is conducted on an annual basis to assure staff readiness and shall include at a minimum the following: 1 Recognition of signs and symptoms, and knowledge of action that is re quired in potential emergency situations 2 Recognition of signs and symptoms of mental illness, violent behavior, and acute chemical intoxication and withdrawal 3 Methods of obtaining assistance 4. Administration of basic first aid and certification in performing car dio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with the recommenda tions of the certifying health organization 5 Suicide intervention 6 Procedures for patient transfers to appropriate medical facilities or com munity-health-service providers Comment : The facility administrator and the health authority may designate those direct-care staff who have responsibility for responding to health care emergencies.
