5C-3. - PERFORMANCE-BASED STANDARD: HUMANE TREATMENT During receipt of any medical services, juveniles are treated humanely, fairly, and in accordance with established policy and all applicable laws. EXPECTED PRACTICES Administrator Notification 5-JCF-5C-42 (Ref 4-JCF-4C-41) The health authority shares with the facility administrator information concern ing a juvenile’s medical management within the guidelines of confidentiality.

Policy determines how information is provided to staff to address the medical needs of the juvenile as it relates to housing, program placement, and daily ac tivity and restrictions Only that information necessary to preserve the health and safety of a juvenile, other juveniles, correctional staff, volunteers, and/or visitors is provided

Process Indicators : Documentation of shared information (through letters, meet ing minutes, e-mail) with the facility administrator and correctional staff; observa tions; interviews.

Parental Notification 5-JCF-5C-43 (Ref 4-JCF-4C-42)

In the case of serious illness or injury, the juvenile’s parent, guardian, or legal custodian is promptly notified. Comment : The persons to be notified should be designated in writing as part of the facility’s admission procedures.
