Female Health Care and Pregnancy Management 5-JCF-5C-20 (Ref 4-JCF-4C-19)

(MANDATORY) If female juveniles are housed, access to obstetrical, gyneco logical, family planning, health education, and pregnancy-management ser vices are provided Provisions of pregnancy management include the following: 1 Pregnancy testing 2 Routine and high-risk prenatal care 3 Management of chemically addicted pregnant juveniles

4 Comprehensive counseling 5 Postpartum follow-up care

Comment : Post-partum psychosocial/mental health follow-up care should include separation issues, dealing with body changes, and so forth. Counseling and health education should include nutrition and family planning services. Unless mandated by state law, birth certificates/registries should not list a correctional facility as the place of birth.

Process Indicators : Laboratory records; health-record entries; contract or agree ment for obstetric/gynecology services; observations; interviews.

Prostheses and Orthodontic Devices

Medical and dental adaptive devices are provided when medically necessary as determined by the responsible health care practitioner being governed by institutional policy respecting treatment classification, resource availability, and treatment planned time-frames Comment : Medical and dental adaptive devices include, but are not limited to, eye glasses, hearing aids, dentures, wheelchairs, and other prosthetic devices.

Infirmary Care 5-JCF-5C-22 (Ref 4-JCF-4C-21)

Juveniles are provided access to infirmary care either within the correctional setting or off site. If infirmary care is provided on-site, the following at a min imum shall be addressed: 1. Definition of the scope of infirmary-care services available. 2 Health care practitioner on call or available 24 hours per day 3. A qualified health care professional is on duty 24 hours per day when a juvenile is present 4 Nursing-care procedures and treatment plans delineate health care guide lines 5 Juvenile supervision within sight or sound of a security staff member
