5B. - PERFORMANCE-BASED STANDARD: HYGIENE Juveniles are provided appropriate services and supplies to promote the main tenance of acceptable levels of personal hygiene. EXPECTED PRACTICES Hygiene Items 5-JCF-5B-01 (Ref 4-JCF-4B-01) Articles necessary for maintaining proper personal hygiene are available to all juveniles and provided to those who are indigent Each juvenile should be provided soap, toilet paper, a toothbrush, toothpaste, comb and/or hairbrush, and special hygiene items for females Shaving equipment and supplies should be made available as needed

Hair Care Services 5-JCF-5B-02 (Ref 4-JCF-4B-02)
Hair care services that are culturally appropriate and comply with applicable regulatory requirements are available to juveniles Equipment used to pro vide hair care services should be inventoried, sanitized, and stored securely when not in use Comment : Large facilities should designate a room for hair care services. Small fa cilities may use a multipurpose room. In all cases, hair should be cut under sanitary conditions and in an area that permits observations by staff.

Clothing Issue 5-JCF-5B-03 (Ref 4-JCF-4B-03)
Juveniles are provided the opportunity to have three complete sets of clean clothing per week with provision for clean underwear and socks daily Cloth ing is properly fitted, climatically suitable, durable, presentable, and not de grading Comment : The facility may provide clean clothing in several ways, including access to self-service washer facilities, central clothing exchange, or a combination of the two so juveniles have clean clothing daily. Sinks are not substitutes for washing fa cilities. Acceptable outerwear includes sweatshirts, jackets, coats, hats, and gloves.
