Juveniles are not subjected to corporal or unusual punishment, humiliation, disease, property damage, mental or personal abuse or harassment, personal injury, or punitive interference with the daily functions of living, such as eat ing or sleeping Comment : Any sanctions that may adversely affect a juvenile’s health, physical, or psychological well-being are expressly prohibited. Corporal punishment or psy chological intimidation should never be practiced.

All personnel who work with juveniles receive sufficient training so they are familiar with the rules of juvenile conduct, the rationale for the rules, and the sanctions available Staff and juveniles are aware of the guidelines for informal resolution of minor misbehavior and reward by privilege for minor accomplishments Comment : Training for staff should be of a frequency that insures consistent imple mentation of the rewards and sanctions system. Protocols : Written policy and procedure; student handbook section on minor mis behavior and rewards for accomplishments. Process Indicators : Point sheets; observations; juvenile interviews; training records.
