Heating, Ventilation, and Cooling 5-JCF-1A-06 (Ref 4-JCF-1A-06)

Heating, ventilation, and cooling systems ensure healthful living and working conditions for juveniles and staff with temperatures appropriate to the sum mer and winter comfort zones Circulation is at least 15 cubic feet of outside or recirculated filtered air per minute, per occupant for rooms, housing areas, staff stations, and dining areas

Clean, Sanitary, and Safe Facility 5-JCF-1A-07 (Ref 4-JCF-1A-07)

(MANDATORY) The facility is clean, sanitary, and safe The facility complies with applicable federal, state, and local safety, sanitation, and health codes 1 There is an annual health/sanitation inspection of the facility by appropri ate government officials, as required by federal/local/state codes. 2 There are weekly safety and sanitation inspections of all facility areas 3. Inspections are reviewed, and deficiencies are corrected. 4 The facility’s potable water source and supply, whether owned and oper ated by the public water department or the institution, is approved by an independent outside source to be in compliance with jurisdictional laws and regulations 5 Waste is disposed of according to a plan approved by the appropriate reg ulatory agency 6 Vermin and pests are controlled Comment : Compliance with safety, sanitation, and health codes is vital for the safety and well-being of juveniles and staff. Local, state, or federal health and occupational safety codes should be followed as applicable. Safe drinking water is basic to human health and should be provided in any facility operation. In the event jurisdictional laws and regulations are not applicable, regulations of the Federal Safe Drinking Wa ter Act present a standard of quality that is attainable by good water-control practic es. Liquid and solid wastes should be collected, stored, and disposed of in a manner that will avoid nuisance and hazards and protect the health and safety of juveniles and staff. Any condition conducive to harboring or breeding insects, rodents, or oth er vermin should be eliminated immediately. Licensed pest-control professionals should be used to inspect, prevent, and treat the facility as necessary. Protocol : Written policy and procedure including a housekeeping plan and a sys tem of inspection and review. Process Indicators : Documentation of approved solid and liquid waste treatment/ disposal; completed inspection reports/checklists, including documentation that deficiencies were corrected; observations; pest control contracts/maintenance agreements.
