Staff control and supervise all individual and group juvenile movements to and from living units, programs, and work assignments Comment : A master pass list for each day can assist in accounting for movement without restricting or discouraging participation in program activities.

Process Indicators : Observations; unit log; juvenile pass.

Direct Supervision 5-JCF-2A-06 (Ref 4-JCF-2A-06)

Direct supervision staff are immediately adjacent to juvenile living quarters to permit staff to facilitate personal contact, to observe, to hear, and to re spond promptly Comment : The presence of staff can help to prevent juvenile misbehavior and avoid disturbances.

Protocols : Post orders, and/or shift assignments.

Process Indicators : Floor plans of living units and their relationship to staff offic es; observations.

Shift Assignments 5-JCF-2A-07 (Ref 4-JCF-2A-07)

There are written operational shift assignments that state the duties and re sponsibilities for each assigned position in the facility Juvenile correctional officers must read, sign, and date their shift assignment each time they assume a new position The shift assignments are reviewed at least annually and up dated, if necessary Comment : A written shift assignment is prepared for each job at the facility and specifies what the job entails and the procedures to be followed to carry out the as signment. This written description provides for continuity in the event of personnel changes. The description is available to all employees.
