Part-Time Staff Training 5-JCF-7E-13 (Ref 4-JCF-6E-13)

All part-time staff, volunteers, and contract personnel receive formal orienta tion appropriate to their assignments and additional training as needed Comment : Part-time staff should receive at a minimum orientation to facility rules, security, and operational procedures. Volunteers and contractor training is typical ly defined by assignment and in training plans based on assignment.

Continuing Education 5-JCF-7E-14 (Ref 4-JCF-6E-14)

Employees are encouraged to continue their education and training Provid ing administrative leave and/or reimbursement for attending approved edu cational programs, professional meetings, seminars, or similar work- related activities encourages continuing staff development Comment : The agency can help its employees continue their education and train ing by allowing official time to attend college classes; staggering work hours to en courage school attendance; sharing the cost of the education or training programs and helping employees secure financial assistance in the form of grants or loans. Outside training and educational programs may provide new ideas and insight into the treatment and management of juveniles. The agency should encourage partici pation in these activities, including participation in selected professional meetings, seminars, and/or similar work-related activities and membership in state, local, and national professional organizations. Adequate funds for this purpose should be included in the budget. Protocols : Written policy and procedure; education leave policies, staff develop ment plan; budget records. Process Indicators : Training and personnel records; completed and approved re imbursement forms; interviews.
