Professional Specialists 5-JCF-7C-03 (Ref 4-JCF-6C-03)

All professional specialists are qualified in their fields.

Comment : The fields of education, theology, recreation, social work, library sci ence, medicine, dentistry, and psychology require specific preparation to achieve professional status. Staff working in these fields in the facility should be qualified in their respective fields.

Protocols : Policy and procedure; job descriptions.

Process Indicators : Professional specialist’s licenses and certifications; job appli cations.

Position Qualifications 5-JCF-7C-04 (Ref 4-JCF-6C-04)

Provisions exist for experience and education substitutes for position qualifi cations Comment : In cases where a person is highly qualified by reason of experience but does not possess the academic training required by the job description, a substitu tion of experience should be permitted; however, the experience must be directly related to the position sought. Similarly, there are cases where education may be substituted for experience.

Protocols : Established experience and education substitutes; job descriptions.

Process Indicators : Job descriptions; employment applications; interviews with human resources staff.

Criminal Record Check 5-JCF-7C-05 (Ref 4-JCF-6C-05)

A criminal record check is conducted on all new employees in accordance with state and federal statutes Comment : The facility’s administrators should know of any criminal conviction that could directly affect an employee’s job performance in a facility setting.

Protocols : Written policy and procedure.

Process Indicators : Criminal record requests and verifications.

Pre-Employment Physical 5-JCF-7C-06 (Ref 4-JCF-6C-06)

Employees who have direct contact with juveniles receive a physical examina tion prior to a job assignment Employees receive reexaminations according to a defined need or schedule.
