The facility/agency shall demonstrate it has examined, and where appropriate and feasible, implemented strategies that promote recycling, energy and wa ter conservation, pollution reduction and/or utilization of renewable energy alternatives Comment : Correctional facilities and programs have the responsibility to imple ment strategies that allow correctional facilities to be managed in ways that are most cost-effective and deliver superior performance, while improving environ mental responsibility and sustainability. This includes recycling (including paper, metal, and plastic products), energy conservation (including building insulation, heating and ventilation, temperature controls, vehicle fuel efficiency, water econ omies, physical plant engineering, and energy measures), pollution reduction (in cluding composting, sewer treatment, litter abatement, and carbon emissions), and utilization of renewable energy alternatives (bio-fuels, solar collection, turbine en ergy production, and methane collection).
