6H. - PERFORMANCE-BASED STANDARD: JUVENILE WORK PROGRAMS AND COMPENSATION Juveniles are provided opportunities to work and earn a wage based on de fined-eligibility requirements, age-appropriate job training, and placement within the facility or the community at large. EXPECTED PRACTICES Juvenile Compensation 5-JCF-6H-01 (Ref 4-JCF-5H-01) Juveniles are not required to participate in uncompensated work assign ments, unless the work is related to housekeeping, maintenance of the facility or grounds, personal hygiene needs, or is part of an approved vocational or training program or approved community service
Comment : Work that benefits the community or the facility may also serve the needs of the confined juveniles. It may be part of a vocational training program, the opportunity to practice existing skills, or simply a relief from boredom.
