6G. - PERFORMANCE-BASED STANDARD: RECREATION Juveniles will be provided with a comprehensive recreational, leisure, and community-service program that promotes fitness, health, and wellness through a variety of activities that facilitate a juvenile learning the appropriate use of leisure time.

EXPECTED PRACTICES Recreation Director 5-JCF-6G-01 (Ref 4-JCF-5G-01)

The facility of 50 or more juveniles has a full-time, qualified recreation direc tor who creates the recreation schedule, plans for constructive leisure time and activities, and supervises all recreation programs and staff Facilities of less than 50 juveniles have a staff member trained in recreation supervising the program

Process Indicators : Position description of recreation director; qualifications of current recreation director; meeting minutes; supervisory notes.

Recreation Staffing 5-JCF-6G-02 (Ref 4-JCF-5G-02)

Staffing is adequate to ensure proper recreation and security supervision of juveniles during activities Comment : Recreation workers may include trained security staff, volunteers, and contractual workers as local regulations may allow.

Process Indicators : Staff rosters; schedules; job descriptions; interviews; obser vations.

Large-Muscle Activity and Leisure Recreation 5-JCF-6G-03 (Ref 4-JCF-5G-03)

The recreation and leisure-time schedule includes, at a minimum, at least one hour per day of large-muscle activity and one hour of structured leisure-time activities Recreation programs are conducted in cooperation with other de partments including security, education, social service, religious service, and medical The recreation program includes the following: 1 A wide variety of physical activities 2. Physical skill-building to help maintain lifetime health and fitness.
