Integrated Programs 5-JCF-6D-06 (Ref 4-JCF-5D-06)
Vocational training programs are integrated with academic programs, are age appropriate, and are relevant to the vocational needs of the juvenile pop ulation and employment opportunities Comment : Relevant vocational training can occur through work assignments, ap prenticeships, and on-the-job training. Employment opportunities can be assessed through contacts with local businesses, industries, and trade groups. Protocols : Vocational training and educational curriculum; lesson plans; related work assignments available at facility; copies of the on-the-job training programs and apprenticeships available for juveniles; written plan that articulates local busi ness, industry, and trade group involvement in program. Process Indicators : Copies of vocational training class lists; minutes from meet ings with outside employers, business people, and so forth; copies of work assign ment evaluations; evidence of transfer of vocational credits received. Provision is made to meet the educational and vocational needs of juveniles who require special placement because of physical, mental, emotional, or learning disabilities Comment : Juveniles should be placed in educational and vocational programs commensurate with their abilities, needs, and interests. Remedial services and cer tified special education teachers should be provided, where applicable. Protocols : Special education curriculum; written process for individual education al plans approved by state and/or local education authority; course/class listing of available special education classes; list of teachers certified to provide special education instruction. Process Indicators : Completed individual educational plans; copies of class lists; copies of teachers’ licenses and certifications. The academic and vocational training programs and instructors are recog nized, certified, or licensed by the state department of education or other agency having jurisdiction Programs up to the completion of high school and/or the GED are available at no cost to juveniles Provisions are made for incentives for educational participation and formal recognition of specific ac complishments Comment : Correctional education programs must be at least equal in quality and requirements to equivalent programs in the community to ensure that student
