6C. - PERFORMANCE-BASED STANDARD: SOCIAL SERVICES Juveniles are provided with quality assessments and professional services that determine and address their areas of need and level of risk. These services will be provided with the purpose of reducing recidivism and increasing prosocial behaviors of juvenile offenders.
EXPECTED PRACTICES Program Administrator 5-JCF-6C-01 (Ref 4-JCF-5C-01)
The social services program is administered and supervised by a person qual ified and trained in the social or behavioral sciences. Comment : The social services program supervisor should have a graduate degree in the social or behavioral sciences (for example, psychology, social work, or counseling) to handle the administrative and programming responsibilities.

Process Indicators : Copy of degree, copy of license(s).

Social service programs are provided that make available a wide range of re sources appropriate to the needs of juveniles, including individual, group, and family counseling, as well as treatment based on assessed risk and need Spe cial programs are provided to meet the needs of juveniles with specific types of problems Facility staff identify the collective service needs of the juvenile population at least annually Comment : Social services can assist juveniles with family and personal problems through supportive guidance and professional assistance. Some of these services may be provided through contractual arrangements with community agencies. Al though the service needs of individual juveniles are important, the agency has a responsibility to assess the collective needs of all confined juveniles to ensure it is maximizing the delivery of services. Determination of collective needs emerges from a well-planned information system; careful screening of case files; and dis cussion with staff, juveniles, and other persons concerned with the program.

Process Indicators : Individual and group contact notes; drug and alcohol referrals; mental health referrals; requests for updated assessments.
