Injury Prevention 5-JCF-5C-59 (Ref 4-JCF-4C-58)

A written plan addresses both juvenile and staff injury prevention The plan is based on an analysis of the facility’s injury experience and includes meth ods for identification of problems and taking of preventive or corrective mea sures The plan is reviewed at least annually

Comment : Juvenile injuries may be intentional or unintentional.

Protocols : Written policy and procedure.

Process Indicators : Completed injury or incident reports and investigations; ju venile-incident summary reports; staff-incident summary reports; injury- analysis documentation; problem and corrective-actions documentation; health- record en tries; interviews.

First Aid Kits and Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) 5-JCF-5C-60 (Ref 4-JCF-4C-59)

First aid kits and automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) are available in designated areas of the facility as determined by the health authority in con junction with the facility or program administrator The health authority shall establish procedures for the first aid kit and AED use by nonmedical staff. Monthly equipment inspections of first aid kits and AEDs will occur. Comment : The health authority shall approve the location, number, and contents of the first aid kit(s) and location and number of AED(s). All first aid kits should be sealed and checked at least monthly for content.

Process Indicators : Documentation of monthly inspections and health-authority approval; observations; interviews with staff.

Medical Equipment and Supplies 5-JCF-5C-61 (Ref 4-JCF-4C-60)

Equipment, supplies, and materials for health-service delivery are provided and maintained as determined by the health authority Comment : The type of equipment shall depend on the level of health care provided in the facility. Equipment should be checked and tested periodically and secured from juvenile access.
