Health-Care Volunteers 5-JCF-5C-56 (Ref 4-JCF-4C-55)

If volunteers are used in the delivery of health care, there is a documented system for selecting, training, staff supervising, providing facility orientation, and defining of tasks, responsibilities and authority that is approved by the health authority Volunteers may only perform duties consistent with their credentials and training Volunteers agree in writing to abide by all facility policies, including those relating to the security and confidentiality of infor mation Comment : Facility orientation should include topics such as the following: fire safety, security, and contraband.

Process Indicators : Signed volunteer-agreement forms; observations; interviews with volunteers.

Students and/or Interns 5-JCF-5C-57 (Ref 4-JCF-4C-56)

Any students, interns, or residents delivering health care in the facility, as part of a formal training program, work under staff supervision commensu rate with their level of training There is a written agreement between the fa cility and training or educational facility that covers the scope of work, length of agreement, and any legal or liability issues Students or interns agree in writing to abide by all facility policies, including those relating to the security and confidentiality of information.

Juvenile Assistants Prohibited 5-JCF-5C-58 (Ref 4-JCF-4C-57)

Juveniles are prohibited from performing health care duties in the facility

Comment : No juvenile or group of juveniles is given control or authority over oth er juveniles in the health care area.
