But we can have power over discouragement. The good news is that you have succeeded in taking the first step in overcoming discourage ment, which is acknowledging it to yourself. Here are three things you can do to help gain power over dis couragement and develop a wellness plan that will work for you. 1. Change the way you think about what success looks like in a wellness program It’s not an all or nothing proposi tion. Create a wellness plan by taking the parts of the wellness program that work for you and that you can accomplish. Small successes are self reinforcing and will help you achieve your overall wellness goals. Avoid questions like, “Why am I having such a hard time?” or, “Why does this always happen to me?” Instead, try, “What just happened, and what can I take away from this?” When you change the way you think about
