ACA’s General Session

TP You have a child getting ready for college. I’m a 57-year-old with twin 7-year old’s and a 24-year-old. What advice would you give to your children to be successful to be happy in life? RA First thing comes to my mind — not prepare the road ahead for my kids but prepare my kids for the road ahead. Not to give them every little thing but to make them earn it. Keep their eyes on the Lord and don’t get caught up in trying to please other people. Just as soon as you get caught up in that you are done. Like with social media, I never get on there. Just do what you do and do it for the good Lord and that will get you the best you can feel inside. TP How have things like tech, Facebook and changed country music?

RA For me, it’s a way to stay connected to folks quickly. Early on when you recorded a song it would be months before you could get it to the people. Now you can get it out like that. I can write a song today, go on the road tomorrow and they know the song and that’s amazing. That is beautiful to embrace that there’s a whole other world where somebody can post a song and become a TikTok star. It’s a way people can really stay connected sort of knocks out the middleman. I don’t generally think that’s a bad thing. There’s lots of ways for folks to get their music and that’s a great thing. TP So glad you could come today and share your story with us. RA It’s an honor to be here with you guys. — Kirk Raymond
