Professional Development Update

“Training won’t change anything” That depends on you. James Clear wrote in his book, “Atomic Habits,” that if a pilot leaving from Los An- geles airport en route to New York City adjusts the heading just 3.5 degrees south, the landing site will be dramatically different from the original destination. The adjustment of just a few feet at takeoff, hardly something you’d notice, will make a significant difference over time. In fact, rather than landing in New York City, you’d land 225 miles south in Washington D.C. Training can adjust your head- ing and help you gain insights about your abilities. Participation in ACA trainings will expose you to new ideas, procedures, and adjust your heading to help gain insight about your capabilities. “The less I say, the faster this will be over” While the instructor’s role in the front of the classroom is important, too often they do most, or all, of the talking. This makes participants feel they have little input or are simply bored. Trainees believe more of what is discussed in the classroom if they say it themselves. When training ends, you should be able to clearly
