C-2A Leadership Approach: Developing Trust and Safety with Our Teams in a Complex Environment TRACK: Prisons As leaders, we are challenged in implementing change and producing results in a dangerous environment. We do this at great risk to the reputation of ourselves and our organizations. We want our teams to be able to express their opinions and to openly share lessons learned, yet we find significant resistance to growth because of fear. During this workshop we will explore organizational concepts and lessons learned that have helped transform them into learning organizations. We will explore the role of the leader in developing trust and safety in the organization using examples from the military and corporate sector. We will share stories of personal sacrifice and courage in leading teams through difficult and dangerous situations. Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will be able to identify leadership techniques to help develop trust and safety. 2. Participants will understand lessons learned from civilian and military leaders. 3. Participants will explore personal stories about the difficulties of leadership. C-2B Returning Citizens – Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office’s Approach to Rehabilitation and Re-Entry Services TRACK: Jails Overview: The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office has implemented numerous programs to assist justice involved individuals and returning citizens transition to a healthy, productive lifestyle post release. Through grants
and community partnerships we have successfully provided resources such as Medication-Assisted Treatment, Office Based Opioid Treatment, mental health/ substance abuse treatment, housing and employment assistance, clothing, driving courses, and obtaining identification. This interactive workshop will provide attendees with an overview of the types of programs that can assist in restoration and reintegration, an opportunity to examine best practices in community partnership development and identify like-resources in their communities. Learning Objectives: 1. Provide an overview of resources utilized at the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex in an effort to assist workshop attendees with determining which methods can be implemented in their facilities. 2. Discuss best practices in community partnership development to assist with the development of a sound base of resources for offenders. 3. Assist attendees with determining which rehabilitation methods and programming services best fit the needs of their offender population and community.
