The Interfaith Prison Partnership (IPP) brought together the Prison Administrators of two local New York State prisons and the Town Board to explore improved engagement of the communities on both sides of “the wall”. A special Adopt-A-Prison community event attracted elected officials, local community members and 18 volunteer groups in conversation on better integration. Arrival of the COVID pandemic kick-started these efforts into a board outreach project. As a result, thousands of bars of soap, face masks, location, as well as hot plates, plasticware, wipes, yard, stationery, and stamps have been donated by the community. Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will learn how to initiate a dialogue between a Town Administration and its local prisons. 2. Participants will learn about the tools needed to set up an Adopt-A-Prison event in one’s Town. 3. Participants will learn the steps for the Town and Prison to develop a working relationship. C-1E The Ohio Story – Perspective, Successes, and Lessons Learned During the COVID-19 Pandemic within the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (CE, CME) TRACK: Treatment This workshop will provide an in-depth review of the Ohio experience and lessons learned during the agency management of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. Ohio was one of the state correctional systems hit earlier by COVID-19 transmission and had to quickly adapt to meet this challenge. Key aspects of the presentation will include: Perspective of the statewide Critical Incident Command Center as the pandemic evolved; The importance of establishing healthcare as the primary diver of actions; impact on operations; The role of the ODRC in the larger coordinated state response, under leadership of the Governor’s office; The importance of multiagency collaboration and support of the Ohio scientific community, and the critical role of data. Participants will be able to analyze the importance of a multi-agency approach and systemic state government 3.
