Juvenile Opioid Use Disorder [CE|CME] Room 103 A Primary Community of Focus: Juvenile Overview: This presentation reviews the epidemiology of the current crisis of juvenile opioid overdose deaths in the United States. It highlights the role of illicitly manufactured fentanyl and easy access to illicit substances by adolescents through social media platforms. The diagnostic criteria for juvenile opioid use disorder are presented as well as treatment options. The role of Buprenorphine in management of opioid use disorder in youth is emphasized. We will discuss behavioral assessment, and solution generation in the context of practice and skill strengthening in all areas of the milieu. This structure is based heavily on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) programming; however, the concepts and structure could likely be implemented as a part of other approaches as well. Participants will learn the importance of developing effective interventions that target behaviors directly and in a way that communicates accountability and opportunity for repair. The approach

Speakers: Ray Atallah , Head Instructor, CPE Production Oy (Dark Night Systems), Welland, Ontario, Canada; Juha Kylä-Harakka , Business Development Manager, Colonel (ret), CPE Production Oy, Forssa An Integrated Community Response to Justice Involved Youth with Behavioral Health Needs [CE] Room 102 C Primary Community of Focus: Juvenile Overview: Behavioral Health Juvenile Justice, an Ohio program to divert youth from a detention center and/or Ohio Department of Youth facilities, focuses on diverting high risk felony-level kids on the doorstep to prison into community-based therapeutic programming. BHJJ aims to provide evidence-based care and support, reducing recidivism and improving outcomes for youth involved in the juvenile justice system. The program is analyzed by the Begun Center at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). In the 2024/2025 biennium report, Summit County, Ohio, 80 almost exclusively felony offenders were served. 80% of youth successfully completed. Statewide, according to CWRU in June 2015, 96% of participating youth were not sent to DYS. Learning Objectives: • Identify the role of the behavioral health professional in the assessment of mental health needs and treatment. • How Behavioral Health Juvenile Justice is implemented in Summit County, Ohio. • Identify unique risk needs responsivity.
